The potential benefit of individualized music interventions for PwD is also discussed in the neuroscience literature, as dementia affects the specific brain areas (supplementary motor area) associated with long-term music memory functions to a lesser extent. Previous research shows that listening to personally meaningful music can facilitate positive social interactions and promote positive emotions and memories as well as a reduction of stress, agitation, and anxiety in PwD.
